I didn't go down the path of chemical herbicide since I'm really trying to steer clear so I'm researching the natural weedkillers. So far there's a couple I have tested all available in large quantities or in smaller sprays from Bunnings.
Natures way organic weedkiller - clove oil based. Not useful as a pre emergent, good for dandelion, clover, broad leaf weeds. Burns plant within a few minutes, so you know whether you got it or not. Good for random weeds around the farm that you can hand spray. Kills grass too. The label says "most" grasses and broad leaf. Eco Organic Garden Slasher - This one uses acids derived from a plant, namely Pelargonic acid which is a fatty acid naturally occurring in the oil of pelargonium plants. Another great alternative to glyphosate, it's effective on most grasses and weeds. Let's say you needed to kill off grass and weeds before laying turf or before starting a garden bed then this will work effectively. I used it last week to clear some hard to get to weeds along a fence line that I could be bothered pulling by hand. Richgro Beat A weed Natural Weed Killer - Acetic acid and sodium chloride are the ingredients of interest here. This isn't a certified organic product like the other two, but in essence its just a really strong salt and vinegar mix! So there are a range of notes in the MSDS pointing to skin , eyes and nose irritation so ensure correct use, storage and cleanup. This product seems just as much effective in the trials I have done, all spot weeding or blanket non selective scenario. I just think the clove oil smells better than the vinegar. |
